Aviation Accessories with Air Force Heritage

Originally the everyday wear of Highlanders, tartans were first developed in Scotland and were a representation of clan kinship. Each tartan design represents different clans and names and they became popularised as the symbolic national dress of Scotland especially after King George IV wore a tartan kilt in his 1822 visit to Scotland.
More modern tartans, such as Canadian and US tartans, have a certain symbolic meaning for their colours. Like the colour blue would represent the sky or lakes and rivers, green would represent forests, yellow would represent crops and red was rumoured to be used as the ‘battle tartan’ so blood would not show.
Now you can also keep warm with these symbols of kinship and pieces of national treasure!
We have added to our collection tartan scarves from these prestigious military forces: The United State Air Force (USAF) and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) !!
United States Air Force Tartan
This tartan was originally created in Strathmore Woolen Mills in 1988 and adopted by the Band of the Air Force Reserve at Dobbins Air Force Base, Georgia in the 1990s. The tartan, originally called “Lady Jane of St Cirus”, isn’t actually formally recognised by the Department of the USAF, however, the design has been widely accepted by the military servicemen and their families with Air Force connections.
Royal Canadian Air Force Tartan
One of the world’s first Air Force tartans! First created in 1942 when Captain Elmer Fullerton, station commander of No. 9 Service Flying Training School in Prince Edward Island, decided to celebrate his Scottish Heritage by organising a Robbie Burns Night. Unable to find a suitable tartan to represent his station band, he requested the famous Wm Anderson (Now Kinloch Anderson) from Scotland to create their own tartan with light and dark blue, and maroon colours. After gaining approval from the Air Force, the Tartan was then sent to Lord Lyon, King of Arms in Edinburgh for approval. Although having no power to officially do this, Lord Lyon merely acknowledged its existence but it was not properly registered. Nevertheless, it became known as the RCAF tartan since 1942 and was officially approved eventually in 2010.
Perfect gift for aviation enthusiasts!
